Shuvinai Ashoona & John Noestheden - Earth and Sky

26th April - 2nd September, 2013

Earth and Sky Shuvinai Ashoona John Noestheden

The National Gallery of Canada will be presenting a large-scale banner entitled Earth and Sky by artists Shuvinai Ashoona (Cape Dorset) and John Noestheden (Amsterdam). The collaboration between the two artists has resulted in a poetic rendering of Arctic landscapes and crystalline visions of the cosmos. Visitors will be able to walk under this 50-metre-long banner hung in the colonnade of the Gallery (from the main entrance to the Great Hall). For the occasion, the drawing Earth and Sky, which is the preparatory drawing for the banner and is part of the NGC collection, will also be on display in the Inuit art galleries.
